CiEVERAL LARGE FIRES having reccntk3 been lit in. and about this neighbo urhood. by which ranch damage has been done to property, owing to the nncontrollabla manner' in which fire runs in so dry a season as this, the Resident Magistrate deems it his duty to inform the public that the “setting fire to any part of a wood, coppice or plantation, or to any heath, gorse, furze or fern, wheresoever growing,” is felony in the eye of the Law, and punishable by penal servitude for a period of from 3 to 7 years, or by imprisonment not exceeding 2 years, with hard labour and solitary confinement. Any person charged before the Resident Magistrate with an offence against the above Law, and against whom there shall be sufficient evidence that he committed such offence wilfully and maliciously, will be committed for trial before the Sunreme Court.
