To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times.
The Bridge, January 21, 1863. Sir, —I have just seen a Hawke’s Bay Government Gazette published on the 13th, and printed by you, and I find therein that Mr. Wood, one of your new town members, is a heavy Government contractor. Now, I don’t know much of law or lawyers, and I haven’t any books or Acts here, but it seems to me that such is not in keeping with the Act which disqualifies all such contractors from becoming members of Council, and so voting the public monies into their own pockets. Is it asking too much of you, Mr. Editor, to request you there in town, where you have everything at hand, to see to this. Fair play is a jewel, they say. From your constant reader, Jim Crow.
