Solicitors .—-.Robert Hart, Esq., Wellington; and J. JN. Wilson, Esq., Napier, Provisional Secretary : —John G. Kinross, Esq. o THE object of the proposed Company is to procure a screw steamer of a capacity and draught of water suited for the requirements of the Tort of Napier. Ihe great success which has attended the working of steamers in the coasting trade of New Zealand has demonstrated the fact that such a trade can be profitably followed, ami it is believed that the Province can now very well maintain a steamer of her own. Thu w ant of a suitable local steamer has been severely felt for the past eighteen months—llockowuers and others having been thereby shut out from tiie high markets existing both in Otago and Auckland. The uncertainty of the voyage precludes slopping by sailing vessels, while the accommodation afforded by the mail steamer, irrespective of the danger and delay of loading in the roadstead, is inadequate. The steamer which this company proposes to purchase shall be one of about 30U tons, with a broad beam and light draught of water, so as to enter the harbour at all states of the tide. Her engines’ power to be sufficient to steam head to wind. As the conveyance of stock may be expected to form a very profitable source of revenue, —she will be fitted up with moveable stalls for cattle and sheep. Independent of tlie outlet which such a vessel would give for fat stock, the growing importance of the Port of Napier requires it fi r ihe development of the goods and pa.-<onger U-.ulie. This Company may with confidence calculate on receiving the liberal subsidy for si cam purposes voted by the Provincial Council of Hawke’s Day. It is proposed that this company shall have a capital of £IO,OUO in SoU share.- of‘g2o each, with power to issue now shares if necessary. The qualification for voting at the election of the first Board of Directors shall be the payment of the first call of £2 per share. Shareholders shall be allowed to vote by proxy.
