LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
Bush Fire.— \\ e have received information of a lire having been smouldering in that valuable bush known as the Pohui for some months past, and of its having burst out with great vigour last week to the destruction of a very large quantity of sawn and split totara timber, and also of a great extent of standing bush. The amount of damage done to this Province by the destruction of the bushes by these accidental fires is almost incredible, and really some steps ought to be taken by the authorities to prevent, if possible, the recurrence of the like. Legeruemaix. —Professor Clay has been very cleverly performing his sleight of hand tricks in the Council Chamber during the last three nights, winding up each evening with the dancing ox alarionette figures, and evidently gave great satisfaction to his auditors. He performs this evening at Clive.
