The greatest Auction Sale that ever occurred in this Province was held by Mr. Y. Janisch on the 4th, sth, Gth, 7th, and Bth inst., at the Stores of Messrs. Stuart, Kinross, & Co., at the Spit. There was a large attendance, and the bidding was spirited, and the lots were quickly disposed of at prices which could scarcely have been anticipated at the present time. Mr. Alfred Bucklaml reports that during the past month Ins sales have been fully supplied with stock. Prices have more than maintained their previous rales. Fat cattle realising from £2 15s. to £3 ss. the lOOlhs. ; working oxen, £l7 to £22 10s. each ; store steers from 3 to 4 years old, £l2 to £l6 ; 2 to 3 years, £8 10s. to £l2 ; yearlings, £G 10s. to £8 10s. ; calves, £3 10s. to £5 ; dairy cows, £l3 to £lB each. The average of a sale of 260 head being, £l2 Is. each. Sheep continue at high rates, owners not caring to sell until after the shearing. Merino wethers ex Queen, brought from 28s. to 31s. each ; Leicester hoggets, from 295. to 375. each; ewes and lambs, from 40s. to 60s. the couple, in their wool; fat sheep bring from Gd. to 7d. per ib. ; fat lambs, from 13s. to 225. each. In the horse market there has been considerable activity, and high prices rule. Good draught stock bring from £SO to £6O, and in one case a powerful horse brought £112; draught mares in foal, from £7O to £BO each ; medium draught stock, from £3O to £SO ; good and well bred hacks scarce, and bring from £25 to £10; old and worn stock are at nominal rates. —Hew Zealander , Oct. 31.
