LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
Lancashire Distress. —Owing, probably, to the short notice given for a meeting on Saturday last, with reference to this matter, there was no attendance, and of course nothing done. We trust, however, that the authorities, to whom, perhaps, the initiative in such matters belongs, will not fail to take such steps as may be necessary for placing this province side by side with the others in aiding such a work. The first bales of wool of this year's clip were received on Monday last, by Messrs. Stuart & Co. They were from the flock of Mr. E. N. Smith, of the Tutaekuri.
