Ilis Excellency laid the foundation stone of the Supreme Court on the 9th inst. Arrival of Tin-; Asti;i:ope.-—This vessel arrived in Wellington Harbour yesterday forenoon, alter a passage of 96 days from Plymouth. She brings a largo cargo of general merchandise and has 23 passengers. There is also on board a consignment to Messrs. Bethunc & Hunter of 26 sheep of the Leicester breed, of which the Mark Lane Express of J une 10th, furnishes the following description. Export of Leicesters and SouthDotvx3.— The Aslerope, which sailed for New Zealand this week, takes out 10 rams and 15 ewes, of the Leicester breed, from the Hocks of Lord Berners Mr. Sunday, and Col Inge ; also a few South Down rams from the Woburn Hock. These sheep are sent to Mr. J. 11. Coleman, Port Napier, and are for the purpose of cros ing with the Merino or Native breed of (he Colony, the wool of which is much too short in the staple and fine for the present stateof the English market. Mr. Coleman also intends to breed a few pure Leicester's, and has gone to some of the best Blood in this country to commence with. Another interesting contribution to our feathered songslers has been made in the form of two larks, out of four originally placed on board. — lndependent, Oct, 16.
