RESIGNATION OF THE FOX MINISTRY.

(From the New Zealand Advertiser, July 29.) We stop the press to announce, that on the meeting of the House of Representatives at 12 o’clock this day, Mr. Fox rose and said, that in consequence of the vote arrived at last night, Ministers hail this morning tendered their resignation to His Excellency, and that he had been pleased to accept the same. He said that they now only held office until the appointment of their successors, and that Mr. Stafford had been sent for by His Excellency, to assist him in the task of forming a new Ministry. This gentlemen had been named in preference to the mover of the amendment, because he was formerly Prime Minister, and because he (Mr. Fox) supposed that he was the recognised leader of the party which opposed the policy of the late Government. The vote last night, the tenor of the debate, and the result of private discussion with members, had convinced him that they had not that united support of a majority of the House which was requisite to enable them to cany out their policy. He did not see the hon. member Mr. Stafford in his seat, and he supposed that this was in consequence of his being in consultation with His Excellency, He would move, that the House do now adjourn until five o’clock to-morrow, and the House adjourned accordingly, la the early-part of the day the Ministry

had been defeated on a motion of Mr. JoiAie for a nominal return of Europeans in occupation of Native lands, when, in opposition to the Government, the return was ordered by a majority of 22 against 19.
