Mahia. —The whaling season has commenced up this way. Mr. John Morrell’s party has captured two humpbacks. The whales are showing very poorly as yet, but there is plenty of time to make a good season if the weather keeps fine.—Communicated. Election for Provincial Council. —On Saturday last, the nomination of a member to serve in the Council, took place. There . was no opposition to the re-election of Mr. Colenso, who was proposed by Mr. Groom, seconded by Mr. Miller, and declared to be duly elected. The whole affair was over in a few minutes.
