THE GOVERNOR’S VISIT TO AUCKLAND.
The Southern Cross says :—We cannot give the details of the late Northern tour of His Excellency : avc can only state general results, and these are highly satisfactory so far as they go. The progress of the Ngapnhi Avar has been stayed ; both the hostile flags Avere hauled doAvn simultaneously, and the rival chiefs consented to evacuate their pahs, and submit their dispute to arbitration. One of these pahs, Ave Imre been told, Avas eA'acualed on Wednesday night, and the other was to have been deserted on Thursday morning last. So far this is well. The question in relation to the land, about Avhich the quarrel arose, Avill he left to two arbitrators—one chosen by Terarau, the other by Mattiu, —and an umpire appointed by the GoA'ornment. The arbitration Avill take place in Auckland in October. Meamvhile hostilities arc not to he resumed, and Sir George Grey had no European present at his interview Avith the chiefs.
