Official News. —We understand that Mr. Armitage, the lately appointed Civil Commissioner in the Lower Waikato 3ms resigned or is about to resign his office. We fear much for the success of the new institutions in other districts, if such a step lias become necessary in one which has been hitherto regarded as the most promising south of Auckland. We have heard no successor as yet spoken of, and indeed are uncertain whether it is the intention of the Government to fill up the vacancy,—Daily Southern Cross , May 30
