LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
A Provincial Government Gazette published on the 20th inst., notifies that James FawcasEsq., M.R.C.S. &c.,is fully qualified to practise his profession ; a return of arrivals and departures of coastwise vessels, for the quarter ending 31st March, 1862. The arrivals of vessels have been 27, with a t 'nnage of 1450 tons ; the departures, 2G vessels, with a tonnage of 1355 tons. Shrleys’ Petition.—At a meeting held at the Star Hotel, last evening, Mr. Peter Searles in the Chair, after the Petition of the Messrs. Shirley bad been read, setting forth the facts of their case,and containing the approving signatures of 135 persons, it was proposed by 0. L. W. Bousfield Esq., and seconded by Mr. H. Alley,— That the members for the province of Hawke’s Bay be requested to present the Petition of the Messrs. Shirley to the General Assembly of New Zealand, at their ensuing session, and to support the same to the utmost of their power. Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. Alley, and seconded by Mr. Robinson, — That the Chairman be requested to present the Petition to the members with a notification of the resolution and to request that they will act in accordance with it. Carried unanimously.
