LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

Appointments.— Mr. S. .Locke has been appointed District Surveyor; and Mr. A. Koch,‘Registrar of Meteorological tables. The Annual Licensing Meeting of the Justices of this district, for the purpose of considering applications for publicans’ licenses, was held at the Resident Magistrate's Court-House, on Tuesday last. The following gentlemen were on the Bench—J. Cur- A ling, J. A. Smith, H. B. Sealy, and M. Fitzgerald, Esqs. Certificates were granted to the following applicants : Bernard Ferrers, Golden Fleece, Napier. John Marshall, Settler’s Hotel, „ John 11. Sebly, Chaucer Tavern, „ Edmund Lyon, Victoria Hotel, ” Joseph Lequesne Commercial Hotel ” Daniel Munn, Royal Hotel Martin Mc.Kalty, Star Hotel ” Thomas Jeffares, Crown Hotel ” Joseph Gill, Masonic Hotel (1 Janus Stewart, Royal York Hotel Thomas Williams, Carlyle Tavern ~ Thomas Edwards, Shakespeare Hotel (To build a stable.) John Bray, Havelock Hotel, Havelock. Thomas Reynolds, Exchange Hotel ~ Marion Fougfcre, Settler’s Hotel, Clive. The meeting was adjourned until Thursday next, for the purpose of affording Frederick Dyett and G. Charlton, who were not present, an opportunity of appearing. Mr. Allen, on behalf of Mr. Charlton, observed that his (Mr. Charlton’s) non-appearance might be attributed to an error in the Hawke's Bay Herald Almanac, which announced Wednesday, the 16th, as the day of hearing, instead of Tuesday, the 15th.
