LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

Eaiithqu-vice.—A shock, somewhat severe, was experienced early on the morning of Friday last. The Native Meeting. The native gathering began to “ dissolve” on Wednesday the 12th inst. Large troupes of the visitors were met by people on their way to the race ground. The camp finally broke up on Thursday. The war dance was performed on Monday, the 10th, witnessed by but few Europeans. We are informed, by those who were fortunate enough to be spectators, that it had a very imposing effect. New Postal Regulations.—A proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette of Feb. 7 notifies that all letters for transmission within the colony are required to be prepaid from the first proximo. Another is to the effect that “ photographs in glass cases can only be sent through the post, even as letters, and at letter rates of postage, when packed so securely that no damage can be done to the correspondence in the mails, or to the officers of the department.” A new code of regulations for the management of Post Offices, comes into operation on the Ist April next.
