Trial Trip op the Airedale.— The Inter-colo-uial Royal Mail Company’s steamship Airedale, went down the harbour, on Saturday afternoon, on a trial trip. Since her arrival here, in November last, she has undergone a thorough overhaul, a now super-heater and propeller have been fitted her saloon has been greatly improved, and everything that could be done to increase her speed, and give comfort to passengers has been effected. On her downward trip, the distance from Port Denison to Bradley’s Head, was run in six minutes fiftecd seconds ; on her return the same distance was preformed in five minutes forty-five seconds, giving an average speed of ten miles an hour. She proceeded some distance outside the Heads, and on her return stopped at Watson’s Bay to correct her compasses. Her machinery worked smoothly throughout, and the result of her trial was satisfactory in every respect, and must be gratifying to the Company’s energetic manager, Captain Vine Hall, who was spared no expense to make her suitable for the service in which she is engaged. W e are informed that two thousand pounds have been expended on her since here arrival in this port. The money has certainly not been wasted, two miles an hour having been added to her speed while a considerable saving in fuel will be effected by her new super-heater. It should be mentioned that the super-heater is fitted on a principal of which Mr. M’Arthur, of the A.S.N. Company’s works, is said to be the introducer. —Sydney Empire, January 13,
