DISTRICT COURT.
In the District Court, which was opened on Wednesday last for civil cases, there were 16 cases for hearing. Of these, however,'only two were heard, the remainder being otherwise disposed of; —these were Barry v. Livingstone, and Hunter and another v. Hughes. In the first of these it appeared that a certain section of land situated in Shakspeare Hoad, was sold by the defendant to the plaintiff and another, but the property actuaUy conveyed to them was not that which had been pointed out to them before purchase and agreed for, but one of inferior value. The damage claimed for this difference amounted to £2O 7s. As no defence was offered judgement was awarded for the amoupt with costs.—The other was an adjourned case to recover £IOO for damages to a flock of sheep sustained from certain dogs belonging to defendant, who is already undergoing a sentence of six months’ imprisonment at the suit of plaintiffs for maiming certain of their cattle. Seventeen rams were proved to have been kUled by the defendant’s dogs and 99 others seriously damaged. Those killed were valued ot £3 10s. each, and those worried were damaged to the extent of £1 head. The only defence set up was an application for a further adjournment, which was refuted by the court, and damages awarded for the amount claimed with costs.
