ARRIVAL of the “POLE STAR” FROM AUCKLAND

The Pole Star arrived here soon after our issue of this norning, bringing papers from Auckland to the 11th inst. Mr. Mantell, the Native Minister, had resigned, why or wherefore is not dear, to be probably succeeded, so says the Southern Cross, by Mr. Dillon Bell. The New Zealander contradicts the probability of this succession. Beyond the “ Native Policy/ 5 which we subloin, and the Governor’s departure for the Waikato, there is no topic of more than ordinary interest in the Auckland journals. Tire Pole Star left Auckland on Friday last, the 13th inst. In consequence of strong N.E. gales, she called at the Barrier the same evening, left again on Sunday, and had pleasant weather until her arrival in port. Capt Eaton reports the Ann from Auckland, df the Ariel rock on her way to Canterbury His Excellency Sir George Grey left town for the Waikato yesterday, accompanied by his private secretary, Mr. Layard, and the hon. Mr. Fox. They were to proceed the first day as far as Colonel Speedy’s, at the Makau, and thence to Waiuku, and theßev. Mr. Maunsell’s station to-day. Blow far his Excellency will travel beyond, depends, we believe, on circumstances, and the length of his absence from town is, of course, equally uncertain. The native meeting wili take place, we understand, at Mr. Mannsell's. —Stuihcrn Cross, Dec 10.
