IMPORTANT TO SHEEP BREEDERS. SALE OF MERINO SHEEP. TO BE SOLD BY PUBLIC AUCTION ON THURSDAY, the 31st day of OCTOBER next and the following days, IN A FIELD NEAR THE NEW CLUB HOUSE Christchurch, Canterbury, THE ■ whole of the Mount Eden, and Christchurch valuable Ram Breeding Flocks of G. Rich, Esq., Mount Eden, Auckland, who is about to decline business in the Southern hemisphere and return to England. ALSO, The newly imported pure Spanish and French Merino Flocks, chosen by Mr. Rich in Europe, with great care, and lauded here a few months since. The imported sheep will bo sold singly, unless otherwise agreed upon at the time of sale: some of these will be sold each day. The Mount Eden and Christchurch Sbakspeare Merino Flocks will be sold in lots of five ewes to suit purchasers, and to enable each sheep holder to become his own ram breeder. The following is a list of the lots which will be offered for competition:— 235 two and four tooth rams, one hundred are two tooth, and by imported Spanish rams out of the Mount Eden ewes. 505 Sbakspeare Merino ewes, from two tooth upwards ; the greater part of the two tooths are from the imported Spanish Merino rams 400 ram and ewe lambs, more or less by imported pure Spanish and Sbakspeare rams, out of the above ewes. 65 imported Spanish ew r es, fifteen have a dash of French blood ; about forty of them will lamb in December next, by the prize ram. 15 imported Spanish and French Merino rams, one of which gained a first class prize in Germany, two years following. The weights of the fleeces from these imported sheep clipped in England, clean river washed, as follows: — French Merino ewes averaged lOlbs. each Spanish do. varied from 71bs. to lllbs. of wool, 11| months grow-th Imported Spanish rams, sires of the above mentioned yearlings and lambs, clipped last season, over 151bs. each in the grease. : The Auckland Mount Eden Sbakspeare Merino flock has ceen removed to Canterbury, partly owing to the disturbed state of the Northern Island ; .and Mr. Rich has since decided to dispose of the .whole of his Mount Eden and other sheep, and to .return to England. The ewes have been selected for ram breeding, ;and their wool has been most favorably reported ‘on by Mr. Hughes, the eminent wool broker of London. The imported Spanish Merino flock is of ancient and pure blood, the fleece being remarkably fine, very closely set, and of great weight. None of the ewes of this flock have ever been disposed of since their importation from Spain. Tins is one of the most valuable flocks of sheep ever offered for sale in the Southern hemisphere. ■ At the same time will be sold, \ Mr. Rich’s mare “ Matilda.” A German sheep dog, and a patent German ear brand. The Imported sheep follow the call of the shepherd. The whole of the sheep will be sold with the wool on. If there is a good attendance and fair competition at the sale it is Mr. Rich’s intention to dispose of the entire flock, without reserve. ' Terms will be given at time of sale. WHEREAS an Act, intituled “ The Hawke’s Bay Naval and Military Settlers’ Act, 1861,” was notified in the “ New Zealand Gazette” of the 14th Sept., 1861, as having been assented to by His Excellency the Governor, —the public are hereby informed that the said Act is now in force in the Province of Hawke’s Bay. J. C. LAMBTON CARTER, Superintendent. “ HAWKE’S BAY NAVAL AND MILITARY SETTLERS! ACT, 1861.” NOTICE. Whereas the above-named Act was passed in the last session of the General Assembly, and whereas the said Act iq now in force in the Province of Hawke’s Bay. Notice is hereby given that applications will be received at this office, under the provisions of the said Act, and the Auckland “ Waste Lands Act, 1858,” (extracts from which are appended hereto), until the expiration of six months from the date of the Act coming into operation, as set forth in Section 111. Extract. Section II. —The said hereinbefore recited provisions of the “Waste Lands Act, 1858,” relating to naval and military settlers, shall relate to and include, and shall be deemed to have related to, and to have included flie said Province of Hawke’s Bay. Section lII.—No person shall be disqualified from obtaining a laud order under the said Act by reason of his not having applied for the same before the 9fh day of .Tunc, 1858 : Provided that such person shall have made such application at any time within six months after the same shall have-come into operation.
