(From the Keto Zealand Spectator Sept. 25.) 'ihe s. s. Prince Alfred, Capt. Bowden, from Sydney via kelson, arrived in port tins 'afternoon She left Sydney on the evening of the 16th, up to which time the English Mail was not telegraphed as having arrived at Adelaide. The Lord Ashley was to leave Sydney for iS'clson, Wellington, and the southern ports as soon as the mad arrived. The Prince Alfred brings 12 saloon passengers and 130 digger.-! from Sydney for Otago. The following vessels u ere advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald, September ICta, for the Otago Gold Fields;—Steamship Llainbow, ship Lady Young, brig Fortune , schooners Elizabeth Shelley, Brilliant, llirondelle, and lona. Wo extract the following in reference to Sir George Grey, from the Sydney Herald: —“Wo yesterday received a file of Cape papers embracing dates from the 30th April to the ISth of July, and singularly enough, although the Duke of Newcastle s dispatch to the present Governor of New Zealand intimating his removal, and Sir George Grey’s appointment in his stead, is dated 25th May,' the contemplated change does not appear to have been known at the Gape up to the latest date, not the most remote allusion being made to it in the public prints, liis Excellency appeared to be discharging the duties of his ollice. On the 4th of July, as stated by the Cape Mercantile Advertiser, a message was received from him by the Legislative Council, having reference to the annexation, of the Transkeian territory to her Majesty's South African possessions.
