A rather smart shock of earthquake was felt in Napier on Monday night last, about eight o’clock. An overland mail between Napier and Wellington is about to be established. The first mail will be despatched on Monday next, at 2 p.m. Harbor Improvements.—We understand that the Provincial Government have decided, on running out a jetty in front of Custom House street, to enable vessels to take advantage of the permanent channel now being cleared by the dredge, which will enable them to keep afloat at low water in the Iron Pot, and/which it is expected will satisfy the requirements of shipowners during the progress of the works, and until the whole of the frontage of the Eastern side of the Iron Pot is close piled.
