LOCAL INTELLIGENCE
New Justices of the Peace. —Tlio following gentlemen were gazetted on the 29th ult., as justices of the Peace for this Province: —William Douglas (Major) ; Alfred Chapman Esq., Edenhairn John Davis Canning Esq., Porangahau; John Alexander Smith Esq., Napier j William Malloy Esq., Napier ; George Alfred Oliver, Esq., Maraekakaho ; James Nelson Williams, Esq., Kereru j Alex. St. C. Inglis, Esq., Ahuriri. Coboner. —Dr. English has been appointed Coroner for the district of Waipukurau. Choral Society. —We are glad to be able to acquaint our Readers thet the Napier Choral Society is again formed for the season. A fresh supply of music has been received from London. At an adjourned meeting, held on Tuesday evening, the committee agreed to give a concert for the benefit of the Society in October, and have offered their services in aid of the Napier Church Building Fund. Subscribers for the past year will be admitted to the concerts for the season free.
