CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the HaioJce's Bay Times. Sm, —In the Auckland papers received some time ago an account is given of an interview between His Excellency Governor Browne, and a deputation of the Representatives of the Province of Wellington in wliich His Excellency is reported to have said in reply to certain remarks by Mr. Carter—“ That as regarded a ship of war being stationed at Wellington, Commodore Seymour had distinctly told him that no vessel of war under his command should ever again be stationed at Wellington. That the Commodore was entirely independent of him * ♦ *. He had expressed a wish that a ship of war should be sent to Wellington, but it was not agreed to” &c., &c. Now, sir, as I have carefully looked for some explanation in the papers that have since come to hand of this most extraordinary statement, which seems to imply some great grievance inflicted by parties at Wellington on the Commodore or some of his officers, especially as none of the deputation seemed to take any notice of it, though it must, as one would suppose, have been a home thrust to them. I would beg to ask—Can you or any of your correspondents give us the reason of the Com.modore’s refusal to station a ship of war at Wellington. I am ir, Yours, &0., NOVICE.
