Wednesday, July 3. The House met at 5 o’clock. Messrs. T. Rowley and Wm. Wells took the oath. Mr. Stai'foku laid on the tabic—Returns called for on the 12th and 2feh of June, concerning the Natives at Hawke’s Bay ; Correspondence and a letter from Renata ; also further papers relative to the Native Insurrection. MESSAGES FROM HIS EXCELLENCY. No. -I—lnforming the House that several Bills passed last session had received the assent of Her Majesty. No. s—Transmitting copy of a despatch from the Duke of Newcastle, and calling attention of the House to a despatch of the Duke’s dated 7th March, IRfiO. On the motion of Mr Stafford, Message No. 5 was ordered to bo referred to the select committee on Military Defence, and to be considered when the House was in a committee of supply. MESSAGE FROM LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. —Announcinff that the Council had appointed a Military Defence Committee, and asking leave to confer with a similar Committee appointed by tho the House. —Aggrccd to.
