To the "Editor of fhtt WamJaf* "Bay Tim**Sir, — Allow me the use of your “ Open Column” for a few minutes. My object in so doing is to expose to. the officials of the Province the vile, miserable, out-of-repair state of the Mohaka-road Napier to Wairoa.) Some time since I had to travel it, at a considerable risk to myself and steed. Some of the steep cuttings, on the declivity of a precipice such as Moangiangi, Waipatiki, Waipapa, &c., ought to be looked after, before human life is lost. If the Provincial Engineer (when he has a spare hour) would kindly condescend to inspect this line, and report upon its condition, he would find it a disgrace to the Province. Oh! You Provincial Government, take compassion on the Mohaka ! Think of the promises you have made her, and how you have fulfilled them ! We are anxiously looking forward to our Tauranga Bush—to the anchorage line of road- to be laid out, that, when made, we may see a flourishing pensioners’ settlement on the fertile banks of the Mohaka. I remain, yours, &c., A Mohaka Settler. Mohaka, June 25, 1851.
