NEW YEAR GREETINGS

Mr E. L. Cullen's Message to Hawke's Bay FUTURE OF THE PROVINCE The potentialities for progress and the development of primary and secon dary industries in Hawke's Bay are emphasised by Mr. E. L. Cullen, M.P., in his seasonal greetings to the electors o £ Hawke's Bay. Mr. Cullen's New Year message to the people of his electorate is as. follows: — "With the exit of 1937 we cannot help but feel sad at parting from tHe ola year. We look back with pleasure and gratification at the continuance of the old fr'iendships with one another and the joy of new acquaintances. To those that are in poor health, and many that are. not able to get out of bed, our thoughts go out in the passing of ths old year, and we wish for a speedy recovery to good health at the dawn of the New Year. "The season is one of goodwill toward all men, and as your Parliamentary repiesentative for the Hawke's Bay electcrate I am pleased to send forth to aU cur people a message of good cheer, encouragement and prosperity. We have every good reason to open our bearts in thankfulness for a fruitful soason, an abundance of the good things that make life worth while, and a evergrowing stability in our economic and social life that is a mark of real eommunity progress. "Hawke's Bay is a wonderful province with great potentialities awaiting oevelopment, notwithstanding the high p'ace our province already holds in the prnluctive wealth of the Dominion.. There are many opportunities for aU, there is room for more homes, greater employment, more population, and ispread of new industries. We have e-verything that makes for the succes.* of the nation. Our lands could be cultivated more intensively, new types oi crops could he grown — crops upon which new secondary industries such as ihe sitgar b industry, can be establishod — ar.r.l one does not require a gieat Heal of imagination to visualise in a clear way Hawke's Bay's industrial fulure. •'All our industries need protection and encouragement, and there are detlnite signs of action in this direction. This development, side by side with cultural advancement, will enable us not only to mairiain our prestige, but also to lead othei along the right lines of progress. "New Zealand is the proud possessor of a wonderful native race, which possesses natural instincts to navigate the great seas without mechanical instrUments, and with great joy we include our Maori people to participate in all season festivities. "Mrs. Cullen and myself extend to all in the Hawke's Bay district our best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year."
