(Received 31, 11.50 a.m.) PARIS, Dec. 30. The union leaders announced at 4.30 o'elock this morning that the strike in the pnblie services and transport had been settled and that work would be ■ resuoaed to-day. According to the Paris correspondent of the Daily Mail, the Prime Minister, M. Chautemps, promised to eoncede the shakers' demands. "It is our biggest victory," declared the leader of the-strikers. The population turning out for work was surprised to iind the strike 1 had been settled. The city soon began to r§sume its normal appearance. The t strike leaders, during the conference, realised that tha public generally were unsympathetic. The first break came at 4 a.m., when naval and military engineers were actually en router to Paris to take over the services. The representatives of the General Conferedration of Babour, following an interview with Soeialist Ministers, decided' that they had received sufficient guarantees to propose to the strike delegates that work should be resumed. The delegates called off the strjke before 5 a.m. M. Chautemps rnaintaiped a firm attitude to the lpst, and refused to see any strike leaders. The strike of private transport workers' continues. Soldiers are bringing food supplies to the market and delivering newspapers to wholesalers. The strike leaders issued a communique stating that the Government had aeceded to their demands, granting the workers the same treatment as civil servants.
