Chinese Recapture Sixteen Towns Japanese Infuriated

(Received 31, 12.30 p.m.) SRANGHAI, Dec. sO. Mr. Lo Pehhong, ehairman of the Civie Associatiori cpeated by the Japanese to xehabilitate Shanghai, was assassinated iu the French Concession. The Chinese are treating all nationals co-operating with Japan as traitors. The Comnvunist eighth route army is harrying the Japanese in Shansi. 3t recaptured 16 towns, including some of strategic importance. A well-trained women '3 battalion attaehed to the Red Army is battling against the Japanese at Wutaishan, Shansi. The Japanese, infuriated by the Reds' tacties, are pouring in troops in an effort to render the approaelies to Hankow impregnable. Further explosiona rocked Tsingtao last night as the Chinese blew up water mains, a Japanese brewery, warehouses, and a dye faetory. The Chinese blew up the power station at Tsingtao, thus overloading the remaining station. They also dynamited other atrategie buildings and cut the cables to Shanghai and Japan. The Japanese advaneing from Tslnanfu are now within 75 miles of the city. The Chinese are stiffly resisting in the Wei-Hsien hilis.
