KEEPING COOL

Ice Cream and Soft Drinks in Demand WEATHER ENCOURAGES BUYING x Ice cream manufacturers in the district report that their output this summer will probably be double that of last year. This is caused by the good summer weather experienced this year, in contrast to last year's summer, when the hot days that spell prosperity to ice-cream manufacturers were conspicuous by their absence. One manufacturer stated that November and December had been the busiest months he had experienced for several years. Trade )iad increased steadily since the beginning of November, and the returns over the last fortnight were well in excess of those for the same period lastyear. Ice cream manufacturers regard the hot weather, coming, as it did right at the start of the school holidays, as something of an act of providence. The children are their principal customers and hot days are a potent selling force. With memories of the wet and di:mal holiday season last year, all those interested in the ice cream r.nd soft drink trade are praying for a continuation of the present weather. One man even went so far as to say that fine weather until after thc New Year week-end would mean that many shops would make more in two or three weeks than they made in the whole of last summer. The experience of the aerated water manufacturers during the last few days has paralleled that of the makers of ice cream.
