"MELODY FOR TWO." "Melody for Two" screens finally tonight at the Cosy Theatre at 8 o'clock. • Commencing at a special New Year's Eve session at 10.30, the popular comedian, Sandy Powell, is_ seen in "Can You Hear Me, Mother?'" Famous on both radio and gramophone, on which Sandy's hilarious antics have delighted listeners throughout the country, this production marks his film debut. No effort has been spared to make the picture good rollicking Comedy, and supporting the star are such versatile players as pretty Mary L'awson, Paul Thomson, Muriel Aked ahd little Baby Ann Ibbetson, an infant progidy who almost steals the show. |The story is based upon Sandy Powell's life-story, and shows how the Stage^truek North country lad comes up to London to win fame on the music hall. At first he is a f ailure, but eventually, assisted by the little chorus girl who takes pity on him, he wins through.
An unusual romantic mystery drama v/ith a surprise finish, Universal's "The Man Who Cried Wolf" is the second feature on the week-end change at the Cosy Theatre. The talented cast is headed by Lewis Stone, veteran character actor. In the role of Lawrence Fontaine, he plans the perfect murder of a philanderer who broke up his home and stole his wife and son. Sharply contrasting with the gripping realism of Stone's portrayal is the tender love story of Barbara Read and Tom Brown, whose affection for each other survives a series of heartrending experiences into which they are thrust.
