OBITUARY
Mr. Jerome Edward Knapp , WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. 1 An old settler of the Tikokino district, Mr Jerome Edward Knapp, passed away to-day at the age of 93 years at his home Makakai, Tikokino. Mr Knapp had been living in the district for over 60 years. Born at Swaton, in Lincolnshire, the son of a clergyman, Mr Knapp came out to New Zealand about 75 years ago, going first to Pourerere where, as a young man, he worked on sheep stations owened by Messrs David and William Hunter. Mr Knapp spent his life in farming purguits. Although he .was in Hawke's Bay at the time of the Maori wars, he took no active part in the fighting. Mr Knapp married Miss Ramsden, of Pourerere. He was a typical gentle-man-farmer and took a great interest in sport of all kinds, being particularly fond of cricke't. He is survived by his widow and a family of seven daughters and three sons. There are a number of grand children and great grand children. The surviving daughters are: Mrs George Buchanan, Dannevirke; Mrs Walter Simmons, Mangatara, Mrs Henry Simmons, Mangatahi, Mrs Petersen, Fiji, Mrs Donald Mathieson, Tikokino, and Misses Bessie and Dorothy Knapp, of Tikokino. There are three sons — Messrs Edward Knapp, Wairoa, Jack Knapp, Whangarei, and Allan Knapp, Tikokino. The funeral will leave Mr Knapp's late residence to-morrow, at 4 p.m. for the Tikokino Cemetery.
