HASTINGS TRACK WORK
:The Barb.")
Preparations for Saturday
(By '
The track work this morning was not of a very entertaining nature, due to so many of Saturday 's an-d Monday 's contestants havinq raced over the last few days either at Waipukurau or Awapuni. The track was not fast, but was in excellent order after having been subjeeted to a good watering during last week. Where not specified the undermentioned gallops took place on the plough. • • • Agog was first out against the watch_ but was not extended when taking 1.24 for his working gallop over threequarters of a mile. His stable companion, Blue Shirt, who is also engaged in the mi-ddle distance haek race, met with a slight mishap earlier in the week, but appears to have made a full recovery. On account of the mishap he was given only paco work this morning. • • • On the No. 1 inside grass Kathbella strode freely over three furlongs in 37}sees. She will not start until Monday. Her stable-mate, Imogen, who raced disappointingly at Waipukurau, was not. out, and her poor showing on Monday is put down to kidney complaint. • * • Taro assisted Hunting Mint in a halfmile gallop. which took 52secs. — fair time compared with others of the morning. # # • Brunhilde aisappointed when safely held over half a mile by Flame Queen in 53secs. • •
Hastings West was not out to show off her wares. The second time round she was allowed to come home the last five furlongs in 62}secs. She appeared to work short in her paee work. « • • Red Cockade had for a galloping companion Singing Gold, who he held safely throughout a five-furlong spin in a little better than 65secs. Red Cockade came in lame, so may not be able to fulfil this week's engagement. • • • Limbohm was not galloped at top, but was sent a workmg gallop with Journet over six furlongs, which oecupied 1.24}. Limbohm will start on Saturday. # # • Laughing Song and Centrepoise were mates in a four-wlong spin on the grass. The former was wide ont all the way, and at the finish was going easy, finishing abreast of her mate in 53sees. # # # Red Witch led Power Chief early in their five-furlong gallop, but at the finish Power Chief had run up alongside the filly to cross the winning line
together in 66}secs. Both were under slight xestraint. # # » Enfin, by herself. ran six furlongs m 1.20, but she appeared as if she could have improved on this time. * * * Lady Chat and Sardius, both carrying fair weights, ran from the seven to th'e three-furlong post in 5'lfsecs. Contact was given a similar task to register 52secs. * * • Parry and Hamarin took 1.47 for once round, but over the first portion of the journey the pace was not on. Parry was ahead at the finish, but Hamarin was going comfortably wide out. # * • At the end of three furlongs Diana Tetrix, after waiting behin-d, camq away to beat the two maideners, Oho and Master Hector, in 39secs. Diana Tetrix has improved. • • • Haile Selassie. with a light weight in the saddle, ran the last four furlongs of his task in 52secs. He appears in good nick.
