Sir, — I notice in your paper of De cember 27 that Christmas Day was th« hottest in the history of Hastings. Following is a copy of the temperaturei in Hastings during Christmas of 1920: The maximum temperature in Hastings on Sunday was 99 degrees% as recorded at Messrs Horton's Nurseries. Mr Azzopardi reports the temperature on th# same day in Napier was 94 degrees. The temperature at Hastings thif Christmas constituted a record. Oa Christmas Day 93 degrees were registered, on Sunday 99 degrees, and on Monday 96. These are from cuttings of thn T«tnrao QS/19/90. — Ynnrs. fitc..
[Our correspondent is quite correct. Many residents will remember the extremely hot summer of 1920-21. Beeords „ of thermometer readiugs before the earthquake of 1931 are not easily avail-. able and we areSglad Mr Godber ha# kept clippings from old copies of th# Tribune.]
