Man Loses Life in Effort To Save Wife

ROTORUA, Last Night. A drowning fatality occurred in the Waikato river to-day between Huka Falls and Aratiatia rapids when Frederick Wilson, manager of the join•wv departnient of tlie Fletcher Construction Company, Auckland, lost his life. Mr Wilson was one of the memberg of a camping party and is understood to have been a poor swimmer. He was standing on thc bank when he observed that his wife. who was with several other members of the party bathing in the river, was in difficnlty. He immediately plunged in to her lielp but. was swept awny by the eurrent. Other members of tlie party threw a lifebelt wliich was on the bank to Mrs Wilson and sueceeded in dragging Iict nshore but by Ihat time Mr Wilson had disappeared. Constable McNulty was summoned from Taupo and dragging operations were commeneod resulting in the discovery of Mr Wilson's body at 5.30 p.m. The body was reeovered about •i nnnH.or of ;i milo dow: stream in *"i fcrt of water.
