Thanks to the Mayor of Hastings
G. F.
BURNSIDE.
Sir, — May I voice my modest but genuine thanks and appreciation of the gift of meat to those in distress this Christmas, made by the Mayor of Hastings. The Government has generously voted a bonus and pay for the holidays to us, but the Mayor 's gift was one that was appreciated by us men whose lot has fallen on evil days. Many of us could not afford — in spite of the increased pay — to purchase any thing extra. Through the Mayor 's generosity in providing the principal cjourse of the menu_ we have been able to suppliment our simple fare with a few extras, and I assure you that his act has earned our heartfelt gratitude. — Yours, etc.,
Dec. 27, 1937.
