N.Z. Trade Agreement with Germany COLONIAL QUESTION

AUCKLAND, This Day. ' 1 The trade agreement arranged by the Hon. Walter Nash wi,th the German Government is loolced on in commercial cireles in Hamburg as a very important step in the right .direction, said Mr H. N. C. Joosten on his return from Germany '"'where, for 17 years, he has represented several Auckland business firms. In the course of an interview; he said that when Mr Nash propoisect a large quota of butter and fruit for export to Germany it involved difficult negotiations with those who had the direction of the agri.eultural policy in Germany and it was due to Mr Nash's tenacity that quotas were accepted. Discussing the German colonial question, Mr Joosten said that the German people were quite determined to regaln possession of at least of the most important lost colonies through friendly negotiations if possible. "It is an open secret in Europe," said Mr Joosten," "that these negotiations haVe proceeded further than is apparent to the general public."
