TIMAKU, Last JNignt. It is a long time since a traverse of Mt. Coolc was accomplished, but the trip was undertaken tbis week by Mr. H. Douglas, of Wellington, wbo is president of tbe New Zealand Alpine Glub and president of tbe Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand. In company witb Guide M. Bowie, Mr. Douglas made a traverse from tbo Hooker to the Tasman sific. They left Gardiner Hut at 4 a.m. The weather and other conditions were splendid. The top of the low peak was reaclied at 11 a.m. and the pair then proceeded along tbe corniced main ridge, the top of tbe bigb peak being reached at 1.5. p.m. The return trip was made down the ice eap and summit rocks to Haast Hut, wbicb was reached at 9.30 p.m.
