Overbridges For Traffic at Whakatu and Papatawa WORK TO COMMENCE S00N Provided sufficient eteel can be procqred at that time, the contractor, Mr J, M. Olsen, of Napier, will start on ta npw overbridge near Whakatu on the Pakowhai-Farndon main highway after the New Year holidays. Mr Olgen hau recently completed the structural work on the overbridge between Waipawa and Waipukurau. The Whakatu overbridge is being erected to facilitate the passage oi stock and other traffic over the railway lipcs near the Whakatu freezing works, and will cross the lines obliquely in four 40ft. spans supported by piled piers, each of which will have four piles. A roadway of 24ft. between >vheel guards is provided for in the speciflcations, The structural wors^ which is all to be in reinforced con» crete, is expected to be complete® about July 16, at an approximate cost of £4000. Built-up ramps will be used as approaches. Prelimmary arrangements are being made by Mr F. H, Bastin, of Hastings, to place in hand the work on yet another overbridge, which is to pe erected near the Papatawa railway station in the Woodville County and for which lio had secured the contract at a prie^ in the vicinity of £3600. It is antieipated that this job will be completed ! efore the end of July, It should cohtribute much to the additional safety of the Napier-Palmergton North Mai® Highway,
