FORM FOR MANAWATU
(Special to Herald-Tribune).
Issue Very Open in the Cup
WELLINGTON, Tliis Day. The main contingent of Trentham horses will be competing at Manawatu on Boxing Day. Tlie sole representative travelling further afield will be the Beau Pere filly Peerless, who has gone north to eont'est the Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslift. She has made. splendid progress sinee racing sq suceessfully at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and although the colts in the Foal Stakes may have developed niore at this time of the year, Peorless can be expected to hold her oivn with them if she can handle the reverse way of going, Sucli a long strider as she is may uot. do this too well. Whatever the result qn Monday, there is not much doubt that Peerless will lipld her own with the juveniles in the autumn. Form is well exposed fqr Manawatu, but the -shortage of experienced riders may tend to dilute its reliability. The issue is very open in the Manawatu Cup. The whole field appears to have a chance, and it is not easy to indicate at this stage who will be favourite, The following horses should be well supported : — 12,15: MAIDEN PLATE. • — Haupongi, Mob Kule, Scarf Dance. 12.55; TOKOMARU H1GHWTIGHT, — Hunting Queen, Beau Gallante. 1.25} TARARUA HANDICAP. -r Maestro, Wananga, Lustral, 2.15: MANAWATU CUP. — Tiger Gain, Hazoor, Master Brierly. 2.55: NURSERY HANDICAP. — Jeanne, Rarotonga, Dunmanway. 3.35: GILLIES HANDICAP. — Silver River, Alunga, Golden Chest. 4.15: FITZHERHERT HANDICAP, Laughing Lass, Lady Ina, Debham. 5.0: GRANDSTAND HANDICAP.— Lone Raider, Wildflower, Siegmund.
