LONDGN. Nov, ' One of the penalties of Ihe nationalisation of the French aircraft industry is the loss of the genius and experi-i ence of such men as the Farman Broth- ; ers. The Tfitiremeut of MM. Henri, hlyur. ice and Diok Farman was anuounced in Paris on Satyrday. Their factories hyve been uatioualispd, and they decline* to stay in the business as employee«. The Farman, s were boru in Frapce of British parentage. Their rise to fame is like a romance. Henri and Mauriee, as lads went into the . bicycle business. In those davs rA was the natural transition to motorcars. Henri drove in the first Gordon Bennott contest. He was the lifth Frenehman to obtain a flying certiflcate; his brother. Mauriee, was the sixth. Both made many notable flights, and Henri won mnumerable prizes and trophies. The two machines which took part in the London-Manchester race in 191b were Farnians, one flown by Louis Paulham and the other by Mr C. Gr iham.White, I remember seeing Henri Farman working for liours on Paulhyn's machine, and inspiring that pilot with advice and support.
