LONDGN. Nov, ' One of the penalties of Ihe nationalisation of the French aircraft industry is the loss of the genius and experi-i ence of such men as the Farman Broth- ; ers. The Tfitiremeut of MM. Henri, hlyur. ice and Diok Farman was anuounced in Paris on Satyrday. Their factories hyve been uatioualispd, and they decline* to stay in the business as employee«. The Farman, s were boru in Frapce of British parentage. Their rise to fame is like a romance. Henri and Mauriee, as lads went into the . bicycle business. In those davs rA was the natural transition to motorcars. Henri drove in the first Gordon Bennott contest. He was the lifth Frenehman to obtain a flying certiflcate; his brother. Mauriee, was the sixth. Both made many notable flights, and Henri won mnumerable prizes and trophies. The two machines which took part in the London-Manchester race in 191b were Farnians, one flown by Louis Paulham and the other by Mr C. Gr iham.White, I remember seeing Henri Farman working for liours on Paulhyn's machine, and inspiring that pilot with advice and support. Paulhan won The Henri Farman and Mauriee Farman types of planes were rlwtinct.
