Arrangement for Licensing AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIONS
(By Telegraph-
AUCKLAND, Last Night. 1 An attempt to have some alteration effected in the system of licensing taxis to carry tourists beyond the 75-mile limit from the city has been made by Mr. A. R. de Balfour, manager of the International Tourist iBurqau, Limited, as the result of recent prosecutions of 71 taxi drivers and himself for transporting tourists off the cruise ship Strathmore on November 19 and 20 •without special licenses. Mr. de Balfour visited Wellington to interview the Minister of Transport (Hon R. Semple) and the Commissioner of Transport (Mr. Laurenson). "I have beeli advised to make appeal against the actions and £ intend to do this," said Mr. de Balfour on returning to Auckland. "The authorities in Wellington appeared to be in sympathy with my complaint and I have been promised that some arrangement will soon be made. Until the Minister gives his decision, however, it will be neeessary for us to be content with .the present position. "We do not antieipate any difflculty in arranging for licenses to carry tourists from cruise ships during the holiday season," Mr. de Balfour added. "In all probability service cars and tourist buses will be filled and we shall be able to arrange for the issuing of taxi licenses to carry the excess passengers."-
