Waipukurau Should Draw Large Crawd FAIR FIEtDS ENGAGED
(By
Fair flelds are engaged at the summer meeting of the Waipukurau Jockey Club, to be held on Boxing Day, and the racing promises to be very interesting. The racing track was never in better order at this time of the year. The betting will be on the single-pool system. "With transport arrangements suitable to all a large attendance is antieipated. Following is a review of the flelds: — 12.0: MAIDEN BACE. The race Taparau had at Woodville the seeond day has benefltted this halfsister of Antique's, and she should be an interesting competitor. Triplex is' not recommended. Anini (Commandant — Headache) is on the improve, and may gurpfise. King's Hope was second at Hastings to Reasonable. The full brother to Colleen Gain, not having been named at aeceptance time, will not be eligible to start. Flame Queen has been galloping well enough to encourage support. Oha is on the improve. Hunting Mint and Great Sandy have no form to entitle them to a premier position in the betting. The three that may carry most money are FLAME QUEEN, OHA and ANINI. 12.45: JUVENILE HANDICAP. Rakahanga was second and fourth in first-class company at the last Wellington meeting, but talcen down to Riccarton could not start on aocount of shin soreness, from which she has now completely recovered. Cherry Plum, a flne big colt by Beau Pere from Cherry Pie, had his first race at Woodville the second day, when he showed pace but ran "green," but that experience should have been beneficial. Diana Tetrix has run one or two fair races. Merry Simon, too, has shown galloping . ability. Imogen has not yet started. Hunter 5s Eve is another filly having her first outing, but the track eflorts of this full sister of Hunter ;s Morn have been encouraging. Laughing Song makes up the field. The best backed may be RAKAHANGA, IMOGEN and HUNTER '0 EVE. 1.30: AMALGAMATION HAOK CUP. Umpire is a fair sort over this distance, but 9.0 may be a little too cnuch in this company; however, he is fit and welL Granville has it in him, but is not consistent, Wauanga won decisively at Woodville. He is also engaged at the Manawatu meeting, and 111 all probably will attend there. Sky-. vvay can be relied upon to run a solid ten furlongs, but the same cannQt be said of Gironde. Impersonator, a bay iOur-year-old son of Winning Hit, and Miss Mimic, when finishing s.econd to Galteemore at Otaki in the mile hack, camo from well baclc to finish very strongly a length from the winner. Le Touquet has been racing eonsistently bnt with little luck. Tullamore rau fifth at Woodville the second day. Clavercourt and Lady Wessex make up the field, but the latter may be at Awapuni. In the absence of Wananga the best backed may be. SKYWAY, IMPERSONATpR and LE TQUQUET. 2.15: BRAEBURN HAOK HANDICAP. Contact has been up. only a very phort time, Taro has been sprintin'g" well enough to suggest *a win coming his way any day uqw» Lindrum dipappointed in his one run at Woodville, but that iorm was too poor to be true. Colleen Gain gpes a merry five, as also does First Chapter when dressed in h|s best, Ruinette is better over a longer conrse, but the loug Waipukurau straight should be in thip grey mare's favour, Marsyas ran two fair races at Wqodyille. Paul Robeson eap mnster up° pace qver a short course. Triplex may do better over this distance than in the Tjaiden. What will carry more monetary support than LINDRHM, TARQ and JJARSYAg? 3.0:* THE HUNTER HANDICAP. For aniateur riders. In all prQbability Hmpire will be reserved for this event. Tres Seo is at home in raees under the conditions speoified; he is in capital order. Reoitation haa not been up a great length of timb, so may lack the condition to cafry 10.10 over a mils and a distance. Aube should go well as he has won races of this description before, Tupai is having his first raee for some time. The three that may appeal most are UMPIRE, AUBE and TRES SEC.
3.45: NQVIOE STAKES, Thala ran well enough at Woodville to suggest that fier winning turn is not far off. Flying Comedy won a maiden event at the last Gisborne meeting from a mediocre lot. The Treble was never sighted at Woodville. Anini, King'g Hppe, Oha, Paul Robeson and Great Sandy will have earlier in the day demongtrated what form they are in. Tommy Atkins was second twiee at Woadjvilla. Form poihts to the best backed being THALA, TOM^IY ATKINS and PAUL ROBESON. 4.30; QPEN FLYING HANDICAP. The two top weights, Mata Hari and Slippery, may be at Awapuni. Pladip can go a merry seven furlongs; he looks in great condition. Gasman, at the weights, appeals. Bunfight may make it interesting, but Hatuma may be in ,wa.nt of a race. In the absence of Mata Hari and Slippery, the favouritef I mav be GArsMAX at'il PLADTI'J
5.15: PORANGAHAU HAOK HANDICAP. This event concludes the day's entertainment. Fossicker won solidly at the finish of seven furlongs at Woodville. Felicitatioh won at Napier Park, putting in a great run over the last 50 yards. Skyway may not be saddled up again. Le Touquet may be reserved for this event, and the distance should suit him. Seyfried inight. surprise. Agog has yet to win a race, although he has been in the money several times over middle distances. Haile Selassie came with a gerat run for fourth in a moderate field at Woodville the second day. Tupai (7.4) was omitted from the list of acceptances. Larwood makes up the field. Reeovery may be looked to from FELICITATION, LE TOUQUET and FOSSICKER.
