Law Candidates Complain APPROACH T0 SENATE

(From

WELLINGTON, This Day. Following upon the discussion of the arithmetie paper in the matriculation examination comea the revelation of the fact that one of the papers for the recent degree examinations of the University of New Zealand has been under fire. The paper concerned is one which was set for LL.B. and covers conflict oi laws. Objection has been taken to it on the ground that it is too difficult. It is understood that the Students ' Association of Yictoria University College, which is interested as the largest law school in any of the university colleges, is considering the terms of an approach to the Senate of the University in the matter. The students' coacern is for the future no less than for the immediate past. Examiners are appointed by the University of New Zealand to act for five years. In the case of the examiner in conflict of laws, his appointment took effeet a year ago and this is the second paper that he has set. It is stated here that there were complaints relating to last year's paper also. The examiner is an Australian, it is understood, and the students are of opinion that the rest of his term of offi.ee for the University of New Zealand should be productive of papers which are less stiif than the last. It is declared that if there is a heavy percentage of failures in this subject the Senate should give attention to the matter.
