Britain's largest land aeroplane, the new Ensign class airliner built for Imperial Airways, being prepared recently for its first trial flight at Hamble, Hampshire, where it was built at the Armstrong-Whitworth works. The machine is the first of a fleet of fourteen to be used on European and Empire services. It weighs 20 tons and is powered by four engines, giving a top speed of 200 miles per hour and a cruising speed of 180 miles. The overall length is 114ft., the wing span 127ft., and there will be room for forty passengers and a crew of five.
