AHURIRI LAGOON
Progress of Development The fact that there are 200 cattle and 3300 sheep quartered on the partially developed areas of the Ahuriri lagoon is mentioned by Mr. T. M. Geddis, ■ chairman of the Napier Harbour Board, in the section of his annual report presented to the board yest'erday dealing with the work which has been done in that area. On the questioii of cftts he says that as with all other capital works in progress at the present time, costs are rising well above the original estimate and the cost of the Ahuriri Lagoon Development Scheme indicates that the board 's liability will be increased from the orignal figure of £50,000 to approximately £69,000. "However," he says, "the worth of the expenditure can only be measur'ed by the final results and if the board 's enterprise in association with the Small Farms Board means anything at all, then the value of this block to the future prosperity of the Napier district is incalculable.
