CLIFTON DOMAIN
Many Improvements Made at the Beach Two bathing sheds, eaeh equipped with two conveniences, have been constructed on the Clifton domain. A new fence has been erected on the boundaryt throwing open for the use of the public another six aeres of flat and hillside land, and making available fof shade some nice well-grown ngaio trees. It is proposed this coming winter to carry out a programme of planting this new area with native trees if the Domain Board has sufficient funds to pay for fhe necessary labour. Tracks will also be made up the hillface to the terrace following the boundary from which a nice view extending over the Bay to Mahia can be obtained. The improvements now completed have been financed from a donati.on of a £100 made by Mr. G. Husheer, and the thanks of the publie are due to Mr. Husheer for this generous gift. Thanks are also due to the following Hastings business firms who donated material:—
Messrs. McLeod and Gardner Ltd., donation of 300 feet of ecantling; L. J. Harvey, half cwt. of nails; Chas. Bone, four cans; E. Holt and Sons, two 8ft. lengths of 4in. x 2in. timber; and N. H. Stott, 50 concrete posts, two strainers and two stays with block's. Clifton is lilcely to become increasingly popular now these much-needed amenities have been provided, and also by reason of the fact that the road as far as Te Awanga will soon be tarsealed. It is expeeted that the Order-in-Council constituting the controlling board will be issued shortly and the first meeting of the board will be held in the Hawke 's Bay County Council rooms on January 17 next at 2.30 p.m. This area was offered to the Crown for domain purposes in February, 1936. but on account of the delay due to the reluctanee of local bodies to shoulder the responsibility of contributing towards initial costs, Mr. F. L. Gordon withdrew his offer in October following. However, as a result of the publiely expressed disappointment at the witlidrawal of the offer, Mr. Gordon was interviewed by the Hon. W. E. Barnard and the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and.as a result of this interview Mr. Gordon agreed to gi-ve the land subjecb to certain conditions, which were agreed to. It is to be sincerely hoped that Mr. Gordon will not have occasion to regret the step he has taken and that visitors to the domain will respeet his property ' aad xiQb cpmtnit any acts of trespasi,
