Man Caught in Outgoing Tide FOUR OTHERS RESCUED

PALMERSTON N., Last Night. ' Caught ifl the outgoing tide, Frederick Thomas Lovejoy, aged 32, of 84 Lirabrick street, Palmerston North} was drowned at the Manawatu Heads, Foxton, about 4.30 p.m. to-day. Four other ■bathers also got into diffieulties during the afternoon and were rescued by the acting-captain of the Foxton Surf and Life-Saving Club, Mr Y. K. Fleming. Mr Lovejoy, who was a married man with two children, was a coal and firewood merchant. His body was recovered about 7 p.m. The alarm was given about 4.30 p.m. for Mr Lovejoy^ who was in difficultiee fairly well out.' His two companione, Mr Stanley Williatn Baigent, 90 Limbrick street, and Mr Erie Phelp, 9 Knowles street, Palmerston North, managed to reach the shore. Two men, who were not members of the life« saving club, took the reel and ewam out, but got into diffieulties themselvee, and Mr Fleming had to go to their rescue. They omitted to mention when they reached the shore that Mr Lovejoy was still in diffieulties. and Mr Fleming was unaware of it.
