DEFENCE OF AUSTRALIA
Bigger Forces ; Resources to be Organised (Eeceived 20, 8.45 a.m.) MELBOUENE, Dee. 19. The general principles controlling the expenditure of £11,000,000 on the defence or Australia during the current financial year were diseussed by the Defence Council yesterday. The Prirne Minister, Mr J. A. Lyons, presicled. Seeurity from external aggression is sought by a simultaneous expansion of the navy, army and air force, the intensive organisation of intemal Tesources, and the production of munitions, raw materials and foodstuffs to meet a national emergency. Australia proposes to work towards the ideal of becoming the supply centre in the westem Pacific area of th'i Empire. It is believed that there is little prospect of a reduced defence vote in the next two years.
