CHRISTMAS PLAYS GIVEN AT ST. MATTHEW'S HALL

An excellent Christmas entertainment was given i.n St. Matthew's Hall, Hastings, when two plays were presented, the first by the Sunday School pupils, and the second by the members of the Dramatic Club. Both plays were very well acted and were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The iirst play, ' ' The Inn of the Star.' ' (C. M. Steedman), was a Christma& mystery play ln eight scenes, witli songs4 carols and incidental music and was arranged by Miss O'Kane, assisted by Miss Phyllis Wliarton, and was very charmingly acted by the following: — The Blessed Virgin, Wendy Whitlock; St. Joseph, Ken Hall; the Angel Gabriel, Barbara Wright; the Innlteeper, Hartley Hatherall; his wife, Yerna Cheers; the shepherds, Shemuel, Timaeus, and Seth, Geoffrey Moss, Gordon Doole and Phillip Vaughan; the shepherds' children, Zillah Bartimaeus,

(the blind boy), Elizabeth and David, Joan Mackersey, John Goodwin, Betty Wharton and Allan Deakin; angel of the star, Shirley Hutchinson; angel of the moon, Tony Averill; apgel of the sun, Elizabeth Averill; angel to the shepherds, Eileen Griffith. The second play was an adaption of Charles Dickons's Christmas Carol, and was splendidly acted by the members of the Dramtic Club. The Rev. Kenneth Liggett arranged the performance, and the characters in order of appearance were as follow: — Bob Cratchet, Alan Boshier; Tiny Tim, John Mackersey; Scrooge, Rev. K. Liggett; charity collector, David Tritt; Marley's ghost, Ray Sutherland; Spirit of Christmas past, Alice Brown; Spirit of Christmas present, Phyllis Wharton; Spirit of Christmas yet to come( Mary Mackersey; boy, John Curtis; carol singers, Trevor Roach and Ian Wilkinson; want, Betty Matthews; ignorance, Norman McLeod. The lighting eflfects were carried out by Mr Leete.
