Distribution of Certificates

TAKAPAU, Last Night. The Takapau District School's brealt-ing-up ceremony was held in the public hall on Friday afternoon, Mr N. M. Paulsen, chairman of the school committee, presiding over a good attendance of parents and friends. The first part of the programme waa taken up with items from the pupils as follows: — National Anthem; Christmas carol, The Finst Noel, Stds. 3. 4, 5fl and 6; Singing dances, the infants; Scandinavian clap dance, Stds. 2 and 3; physical exercises, seniors; Christmas carol, Away in a Manger, infants, Stds, 1 and 2; folk song, The Butterfly. Std. 1; Morris dance, seniors; Christmas carol, Silent Night, Stds. 1, 2 and 3. The headmaster, Mr T. Taylor, read a telegram from the senior inspector, Mr T. A. Morland, saying farewell to the children of Hawke's "Bay. The chairman, prior to distributing the certificates, thanked those present for their attendance and for the public support that had been given to the school during the past year, and wished the pupils and school staif the compliments of the season. Tho chairman read a telegram from Mr Cuthbertson, member of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, conveying eeasonal greetings. Tho dux medal, won by Philip Brian May. was presented to him by the donor, Mr Paulsen, who congratulated the winner on his good school record. The runner-up for the dux prize was Mary Ngaera, who was also congratulated on her good work. Prizes won in the calf-rearing competition were presented as follows: — Silver cup, championship of Southern Hawke's Bay, Bruce Thomsen 1; Takapau competition, eondition, Elaine" Thomsen 1, Bruce Thomsen 2, Alan Johnson 3; „type, Bruce Thomsen 1, Elaine Thomsen 2. Alan Johnson 3. Certificates of merit (care and attention), Bruce Thomsen, Elaine Thomsen, Alan Johnson, Graham Neville, Gerald Paterson and Max Mouat. Afternoon tea was served and concluded a very enjoyable school function.
