NEW COLUMBIA PRODUCTION FOR 1938
The Columbia Picture Corporation claims to have the stars5 dixectors, and stories for making great pictures in the coming year. Initial details of the 1938 line-up are as follows: — Irene Dunne and Cary Grant in "The Awful Truth"; " Penitentiary, " an important production from the story by Courtney Riley Cooper; Madeleine Carroll and Francis Lederer in "It's All Yours"; Loretta Young and Randolph Scott in " There 's Always a Woman"; Grace Moore and Melvin Douglas in Everett Risldn's production "I'U Take Romance"; Gloria Swanson in a .Francis Marion production, "The Seconi Mrs. Draper"; "Wilderness Trail" (tentative title), a lavish outdoor production written by the author of "The Plainsman," with Gary Grant heading a big cast; "Miss Quis," a famous Broadway stage play whieh will be brought to the screen with big names; "Nobel," a story of the man who invented dynamite. One Edward G. Robinson production, the title to be announced later: one production with Carole Lombard. For the first time in Columbia 's history this company is to enter the musical field, and will deliver the following three pictures in a row: — "Paris On Broadway," written and produced by
the great Oscar Hammerstein II.5 produeer of "Show Boat" and "Rose Marie ' ' "and f eaturing Dolly Haas, famous Continental star; "College Hero"; and "GraDd Gesture." Columbia has been successful in contracting Joe E. Brown for two of what promise to be this star's most popular comedies. Another of the new season 's most important productions will be "You Can't Take It With You," the Pulitzer prize play.
